just a thought

Bill Maher slams Obama” reminds me of Harper’s most recent cover article (Barack Hoover Obama by Kevin Baker), in which Obama is compared to Herbert Hoover, the president who ‘had the right idea but only dug the US deeper into the Depression.’ Both Baker and Maher think that Obama isn’t ‘getting things done.’ Maher suggests Obama should act more like George Bush Sr.—gruff and result-oriented—while the more grim Baker argues that only FDR, Hoover’s replacement, was able to pull America out of economic turmoil. Maher ends his segment saying: “I’m glad Obama is president, but the ‘audacity of hope’ part is over. Right now, I’m hoping for a little more audacity.”
